How many shows have nine straight perfect seasons? The horror, suspense, and black humor series ‘Inside No. 9’, directed and starring Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton, stands out among others. Along with the previous eight, Filmin released this final season. In time for Halloween chills and laughs.

As always, we have six juicy chapters, each around 30 minutes long, that feature minimalist and theatrical grotesque situations, usually sharply satirical, and often reduced to a single space that becomes more suffocating and full of dark meanings. Unbridled ironies, bad decisions, despicable characters you’ll identify with… a misanthropic show with occasional hope.

For the past decade, Shearsmith and Pemberton have repeated the same code: the most absolute British normality, with its diverse cast, ages, and races, in conventional, parodic, and surprising settings. In those places and with those people, something clicks (an unexpected attitude, an inevitable event nobody could have foreseen) and everything falls apart.

We are surprised by each episode of ‘Inside No. 9’ even though we know the codes because they work the same. Nine seasons later, Shearsmith and Pemberton’s ability to transform into many everyday beings still amazes. That’s why ‘Inside No. 9’ is TV’s best mystery and comedy. If you haven’t started watching it, you’re lucky: a discovery that will change our worldview awaits you. At least our daily routine.

Imagine a haunted house with only your worst fears—personal, private, oddly specific. Like, accepting a game show host job after a low point in your life? Each to their own, Nick Kroll. You probably guessed this episode’s premise. Nick, Jessi (Jessi Klein), Andrew (John Mulaney), Missy (Jenny Slate), and Matthew (Andrew Rannells) visit the sorority house for Kappa Kappa Kill and are forced to drink “slut juice,” a trip-inducing concoction that sends each of our friends to their own nightmare.

To escape, they must find enlightenment or die. During all this, the hormone monsters—Rick (Kroll), Mona (Thandiwe Newton), Connie (Maya Rudolph), and Maury (Kroll)—are tricked into an undisclosed location for an adventure. The entire 27 minutes are a trip, but Zach Galifianakis’s Gratitoad, a friendly amphibiana toad who says “Gratitude takes practice” and “It feels nice just to be silly”—the perfect summation of this entry on our list—is the best.

This Halloween BoJack Horseman episode invites Mr. Peanutbutter (Paul F. Tompkins) to reminisce. The lively yellow Labrador prepares to take his new girlfriend, Pickles Aplenty (Hong Chau), to BoJack’s (Will Arnett) 25th anniversary Halloween party and reminisces. Starting in 1993 when he takes his wife Katrina (Lake Bell) to the party, the episode jumps to 2004 when he’s remarried to Jessica Biel (playing herself), 2009 when he marries Diane (Alison Brie), and finally to his current relationship with Pickles.

Every Halloween, Mr. Peanutbutter wonders why he starts with hope that it will be the best and ends with a fight with his partner. He finally wonders if his former boos share a common denominator—maybe him. BoJack Horseman’s usual existentialism and current costumes are in the episode.
