Analysis of 'Red Dead Redemption 2'

Red Dead Redemption 2 is the game that killed the concept of a Grand Theft Auto with horses. In addition to being illogical, it fails to describe its true capabilities. Although it is undeniably a larger, more ambitious, and fantastic game, Rockstar’s latest crowning achievement struggles to keep up with or even exceed the sales of its other famous franchise.

The Houser brothers and their enormous crew craft a tale of charming antiheroes that you can’t help but root for, mechanics and rhythm that you can’t help but follow, and visual brilliance that you can’t help but praise. Whatever happens with the game’s moniker, controversy, or financial success won’t change the fact that “Red Dead Redemption 2” is crucial: it is one of the most influential video game franchises of all time.

‘Red Dead Redemption 2’—what is it?
Rest assured, you will likely grow weary of seeing it plastered all over billboards and bus shelters for the upcoming weeks, even if you are unfamiliar with it. While not strictly necessary, I would suggest starting with “Red Dead Redemption”—the original game that set the tale in motion and to which “Red Dead Redemption 2″ is a prequel—if you find that the series piques your interest.

In an open world set in the United States during the final days of the Wild West, a band of outlaws feels stifled by the rapid spread of technology and development. The government has placed its weight on what was formerly an ungoverned area in an effort to stop the violence, train robberies, and bank thefts that have been plaguing the area, jeopardizing the industrial growth-inducing funds.

We follow Arthur Morgan, the most famous gang member, as he leads us through the final days of the gunslinger age and into the future of a band of outcasts who aren’t sure if they’re going crazy or sinking into despair. The only option appears to be amassing a fortune and running away, but it will most surely not be a picnic.

Nor is it going to take on the open world genre, which is stale and often associated with eras that don’t produce hits. Naturally, though, we are not referring to a specific business or video game here. ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ by Rockstar is the subject at hand.

A progressive step
It is no easy task to establish oneself as a pivotal title in an industry that employs some of the most renowned creative minds in digital entertainment and makes millions of euros annually. “Red Dead Redemption 2″ succeeds not because it is entertaining or visually appealing (though it is both of those things), but rather because it finds new ways to maximize the genre’s inherent strengths.

Open world games are nothing new to us. From time to time, it’s an exact replica of what was formerly known as “GTA III.” Other people are providing the idea’s fuel by fusing elements from games like “The Witcher 3” (an RPG) and “Forza Horizon 4,” a racing game. When it comes to action games, though, it is Rockstar that paves the way, much like ‘Uncharted’ and Naughty Dog.

Not only do you have a massive world packed with content, but you also have a compelling plot and gameplay mechanisms that go beyond simple movement. You’ve also entered a real-life environment that provides you with all the tools you need to respond appropriately to your actions. If you talk to a character in a normal setting, their animation and dialogue will be one way; if they’re stinking from not washing for days, their animation and dialogue will be another; if they’re drunk, their animation and dialogue will be yet another; and if they’re in the middle of something when you get there, it will all be affected.

In terms of specifics, it’s nearly hard to understand all it has to offer. An enormous, bewildering event that, regardless of your means of entry, will make you feel as though the globe is coming to life. Building an environment in which all surrounding you respond to that exact moment is more important than having a lot of muscle.

Obviously, no game development company can hope to achieve this level of success. Not everyone can afford the 2,200 days of recording, 700 voice performers, 300,000 unique animations, and over 500,000 lines of conversation. To start with, it’s maddening. Secondly, nobody else is going to go to such lengths as to make something that a minuscule percentage of gamers will ever get a chance to view.

When adjusting the desired level of detail, a similar phenomenon occurs. After a successful hunt, in other games, a standard animation would play to suggest that the character is deboning the animal. Whether it’s a duck exposing its carcass or a buffalo stripping its hide, every animal here has its own unique movement.

From the sunset to the background action an extra does while the protagonist speaks, every element that could be seen in a western cinema shot has to be meticulously recreated. Occasionally, it could make the gamer feel like they’re not getting the most out of one of those choices.
