An unsettling series of murders, some with a disturbingly viral undertone, strike a small rural town, and an elderly foreigner who chooses to live a life of seclusion becomes the prime suspect in this chilling and ultimately terrifying finale. If a police officer suspects that the crimes have a supernatural cause, a shaman may attempt to stop them.

The unbridled performances of Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill are crucial in this masterpiece by Andrzej Zulawski, which begins as a domestic melodrama gone wild and eventually transforms into a mutant delirium. Scenes like Adjani’s infamous hysterical attack in the underpass or the monstrosity responsible for this nightmare will remain in your memory as the marital trauma is transformed into a kind of neo-carnic and highly cryptic elegy.

Laugh Out Loud (1997)

How about horror flicks from the ’90s? Even though I don’t particularly care for them—I don’t think they’re good for anyone—I can’t deny that in their last act they gave us a smattering of unhealthy, nihilistic films that are among the most depressing and excessive of all time. One such film is “Funny Games,” which belongs to a director’s raunchy canon that includes “The Pianist” and features nearly two hours of psychological abuse, tension, threats, and torture. Put simply, it is a work of art.

Watch it on Movistar Plus+ and A Contra+. Bonus: We don’t know why we’re bringing them up, but watching Lars von Trier’s ‘Antichrist’ (on Filmin) and ‘Funny Games‘ (on Movistar Plus+) on the same night might put you to sleep with a butter knife.

It goes without saying that Ari Aster, the undisputed king of what some called “elevated terror” but was really just old-school horror, directed this groundbreaking work of pure, demonic horror. A masterful piece that creates an atmosphere of devastating menace; it tells the story of a family engulfed in flames and linked to hardcore occultism.
