This simulation lets you watch the Titanic sink

Does a video game simulation of the sinking of the Titanic, which occurred a little over a century ago and resulted in the deaths of more than 1,500 passengers and crew members, have the potential to be instructional or tasteless? The questions that are asked throughout the two and a half hours of footage that can be found above from Titanic: Honor and Glory, which is described as a “fully interactive recreation of the most famous ship in history.”

After the film Titanic, which was released in 1997, sparked a boom in interest in the tragedy, dozens, if not hundreds, of businesspeople attempted to capitalize on it. Taking part in traveling museum tours, shopping for souvenirs at home, and even participating in high school versions of “Titanic: The Musical” made the words “Titanic” sound like the educational equivalent of watching NASCAR for the car wrecks.

Cynicism permeates the entertainment that is developed around the ship even twenty years after it was first constructed.It would appear that Titanic: Honor and Glory is more intelligent, or at the very least, more authentic, than its contemporaries. There is very little speech from those who are not visible on board the ship, and there are just a few captions that explain what is going on on board the vessel. The boat is sinking. The one that is the most unnerving is the one that begins to gradually silence the background noise.

As the ship sinks deeper into the water, the only sounds that can be heard are the odd explosion, the cracking of wood, or the groaning of metal that is being bent. The wind of the night suddenly ceases. At first, the ship is fairly peaceful, but then your mind starts to picture thousands of people trying to escape on the lifeboats, which are not very strong.

In the full version of the game, players will not only have the opportunity to inspect the ship before and during its sinking, but they will also be able to investigate a reconstruction of the streets of Southampton before embarking on their doomed expedition. Considering how hilariously big the objective is, I believe that the developers must have a genuine belief in the pursuit of it; otherwise, why would they devote resources into a degree of detail that will almost certainly become tedious? As an illustration, consider the following breakdown of which components of the ship have been modeled, are currently being worked on, or have not yet been initiated.

There are a lot of interesting bits that are interwoven throughout the film, such as water overflowing the perfectly designed interiors. Although it may be tempting to jump right to the finish of the video, there are a number of interesting bits as well. In order to avoid interruptions, I suggest muting the video and keeping it open in a tab while you check in periodically.
